IDENTITY: A Journey Through
Ephesians
Eph. 1:1-14
Do you remember what it felt like the last time you were chosen for something?
Maybe you were selected for an award or a promotion. This weekend we’ll
consider what it means to us that we’ve been chosen by God. We’re beginning a
17-week series in the Book of Ephesians, a letter written by the Apostle Paul
concerning our identity in Christ. It provides a picture of how Christians are
to live in Christian community and in the secular society. In this opening
passage, we’ll dive directly into deep theological waters. This introduction
mentions the confusing and controversial doctrine of predestination. We could
wade right into this quagmire and never climb out again, certainly not in half
an hour. Smart people get lost in this material. So, rather than focusing on
what people have not been able to agree on through the ages and trying to
unscrew the inscrutable; we’ll concentrate on what is clear in this passage and apply what we can
understand about the fact that believers are chosen by God.
