In the Beginning
March 14, 2021
All the best stories begin with great opening lines. Let’s see if you can identify where these famous lines came from…
Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin.
-Winnie the Pooh
Congratulations! Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places! You're off and away.
-Oh the Places You’ll Go
Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmond, and Lucy.
-The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Buttercup was raised on a small farm in the country of Florin.
-The Princess Bride
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....
-Star Wars
So, how did you do? Great opening lines capture our attention from the very start. This weekend, as we continue in our series, The Bible for Grown-ups, we’re going to look at another captivating opening line. But there’s one significant difference…this is no fairy tale. Every word of this story is true. It starts out, “In the beginning...”.
We’re on the second week of a four-week series that unpacks for us the story OF the Bible. Many of us know the stories IN the Bible, but do you know how the Bible actually came to be? Understanding how we got the Bible strengthens our confidence in the Bible. If you’ve ever doubted whether or not you could trust what the Bible says, or struggled with some of the stories it contains, this is a great series for you!
