September 23, 2018From the Inside OutDangerous Grace: Paul's Letter to the Romans
We are just a couple of weeks into our fall sermon series. We’re spending time studying the Book of Romans this fall, because no other book of the Bible captures more fully the fundamentals of our Christian faith. Last week, we took a hard look at God’s wrath. It’s not exactly a warm, fuzzy kind of topic. But it’s so important for us to understand! We’re going to move a little deeper in our study this week, talking about God’s judgment and why it matters to us. Clarity on these challenging parts of Paul’s letter will help us to better understand the good stuff that is yet to come! A faith-lived life starts with the attitudes of our heart. What we do on the outside doesn’t really matter if it doesn’t match up with our inside! We want to be people who live out our faith with authenticity and humility.

Last week we launched our new series, Dangerous Grace: Paul’s Letter to the Romans. If you missed out on the introduction to the series, be sure to catch it on our Dayspring website or on iTunes. Though written to the church in Rome more than 1,900 years ago, Paul’s words are full of important, relevant, and practical teaching for the Church today. The believers in Rome were wrestling with how to live out their faith on a daily basis, in much the same way that we do! Paul’s encouragement to them will be an encouragement to you as well. Join us as we begin digging deep into the heart of Paul’s letter, to better understand what it means to be justified by faith and to walk in righteousness.- Pastor Chris

The sun is sitting a little lower in the sky, the mornings are a little bit cooler, and the days are getting shorter. The leaves are beginning to change color, and the kids are back in school! Changing seasons bring new beginnings, and in this message we have one of our own as we begin a 13-week study on the Book of Romans. Written by the Apostle Paul to the church at Rome, a group of both Jewish and Gentile believers whom Paul had not yet visited, the book of Romans is overflowing with Paul’s passion for the Gospel, his love for Christ, and his commitment to the calling of God on his life - to share the Good News of Jesus wherever God would take him. We are excited to learn all that God has for us in this series we’ve entitled Dangerous Grace. Don’t miss out on what God has for you in this study!- Pastor Chris

Wise WordsUncommon Sense: Wisdom from Proverbs September 2, 2018
Have you ever hit the send button on an email or a text message only to realize that auto-correct has made a most regrettable change to your message? This is especially frustrating or embarrassing when you are sending a message to a customer or client. You have taken the time to craft a professional and well-worded message only to have it changed to something that makes no sense at all. Or worse yet, auto-correct changed one single word and now it makes perfect sense; but the message it communicates is embarrassing or even offensive! If you have done this, and most of us have, you recognize the importance of words…and spelling. The significance of words is incredibly underrated in a culture saturated with written messages on nearly every inch of space in our lives. From advertisements seeking your attention, witty and entertaining blogs, warning labels on food, work emails, and, yes, the seemingly endless stream of text messages. The incredible volume of words flowing through our lives and minds on any given day can have a dulling effect on the significance we give to words. For example, you might be experiencing this exact thing right now as you read the words I have written here. Words have profound power and influence in our lives that we often fail to recognize or use to their fullest. Words have the power to hurt or to heal, to save or to destroy relationships, to comfort or instill fear, to encourage or discourage. This list could go on and on. Words mean something, and their meaning carries with them messages that evoke emotion and inspire us as we receive them. This is the reason why Proverbs, and many other Bible passages, give so much time and energy to the use of words in our lives. For this reason, in our last message of this series on wisdom in Proverbs we are focusing on Wise Words. I hope you will join us this Sunday as we seek to rediscover the significant power of Wise Words. - Kap Otten

The opportunities and offers are everywhere. They come at us non-stop and from all sides. The chance to buy, to try, to subscribe. You can purchase through an app on your phone or from a computer, while sitting at home! You can order groceries, clothes, dog food and more without ever having to go to a store! We are literally surrounded by those who are eager to help us empty our wallets! And it’s way too easy to fall prey to their schemes. So what’s your strategy for using your money wisely? Solomon, the wealthiest king to ever rule the earth, has a lot to say about money…how to get it, and how to use it. In this message we continue in our series, Uncommon Sense, for a look at what Proverbs has to tell us about money. God’s promise of blessing is available to those who choose to walk in wisdom. What will you choose?- Pastor Chris

August 5, 2018
You don’t have to look very far to see that common sense is in short supply these days. One Sunday evening of watching America’s Funniest Home Videos can remind you pretty quickly of how gullible, short-sighted, and foolish people can be! Over the last several weeks we’ve been looking at the big themes in the Book of Proverbs and considering what God’s Word has to say to us about wisdom. This week, we begin looking at specific areas of life where we need God’s wisdom if we want to live the way He intended! In Genesis 2:15 we read, "The Lord God placed the man in the garden of Eden to tend and care for it." From the very beginning, God’s plan for humans included work. Through our work - the way we do it and our attitude about it - we can reflect the character of God to a world that doesn’t know Him. Proverbs has much to tell us about how we should work if we want to live a life that God can bless. In today's message we continue to seek the wisdom of God and apply it to our lives in practical ways.-Pastor Chris
