IDENTITY: A Journey
Through Ephesians
Paul’s prayer in the third chapter of Ephesians is actually a four part petition sandwiched
between two amazing statements about God. This weekend we’ll consider one
of the greatest ‘prayer promises’ in Scripture. It’s found in the second
of Paul’s statements about God; the only One who is able to accomplish His
purposes in our lives. We’re feeble in our prayers because we forget who
God truly is. This weekend I hope we’ll all be more motivated to pray
after seeing God’s purpose and power for His people. He is able!
Join us this weekend and get a jolt to your prayer life!

IDENTITY: A Journey
Through Ephesians
Ephesians 3:14-19
In our culture today, especially here in the northwest, we at times hear the
phrase “I’m not religious, I’m just spiritual.” This mindset could be supported
if our personal walk with the Lord remained only for ourselves, but that isn’t
what we see in Scripture. Faith, love, grace, forgiveness, even our testimonies
are all elements of our walk that are intended to be shared.
In fact we were created for community; we were created to be in relationship
with the Lord and with one another. This weekend we will continue in our series
on Ephesians by looking together at Ephesians 3:14-19. In our time together, we
will look at what the Lord shares with us (identity, strength and power) and
how that impacts what we share with one another (the love of Christ). But the
journey doesn’t stop there. In fact this mutual sharing of God’s love in
community will in turn help us to grow in knowledge and love, as we experience
the fullness of God in our lives.
So come worship with us, celebrate with u s, and enjoy the depth of
relationships within the family of God here at Dayspring. What a gift to fall
more in love with Jesus together! We can’t wait to see you this Sunday.
God Bless you,
Pastor Nathan

Why Not Have a Pity Party?

IDENTITY: A Journey
Through Ephesians
Ephesians 3:1-13
Many of us can relate to my title. Our
circumstances are tough and difficulties dominate our minds. Why not have a
pity party? Paul answers that question in this next section of Ephesians we’ll
study this weekend.
In the first verse of this passage, 3:1, Paul mentions that he was writing from
prison. A pity party makes sense in that setting; he had been beaten unfairly.
He was in chains. He was not able to do what he wanted to do or go where he
wanted to go. That is a pitiful situation, and certainly discouraging for a
type-A kind of guy like Paul.
But in the last verse of this passage, 3:13, Paul says the Ephesians shouldn’t
pity him. He told them not to be discouraged because of his sufferings. Paul
essentially said, don’t pity me; I don’t pity myself. He’s not discouraged, and
the rest of 3:1-13 explains why he felt humble appreciation, rather than
humiliating defeat. It also explains why we don’t need to wallow in our
personal pain and throw a pity party.
Come worship with us.

IDENTITY: A Journey
Through Ephesians Ephesians 2:11-22
Our country was rocked with another
tragedy this week; worshippers were murdered in their church. It appears that
the horrible shooting was racially motivated. History reveals that tensions
have always existed between various groups. Back in Bible times, a deep
division separated Jews and Gentiles. This theme is addressed in several of
Paul’s epistles and surfaces in the text we will study this weekend. I’ve
always struggled to make the distinction between Jew and Gentile vivid for
people today, but all the hateful prejudice in the current news serves as an
unpleasant and relevant connection between our lives and what we read in the
Bible. The message of Eph. 2:11-22 is that Jesus is the way we come to the
Father and he is also the way we come together. Come worship with us as we
learn about all we have in Jesus.

You are a Masterpiece

Tuesday Jun 16, 2015
June 13 & 14, 2015
You are unique. Just like me. A masterpiece created by the Master Craftsman,
chosen to display his wisdom and kindness to all of creation. How’s that
workin’ for ya? I see myself more as a Velvet Elvis or Dogs Playing Poker than
DaVinci’s Mona Lisa or Michelangelo’s David. What about you? God has chosen you
for his purpose. This weekend we are going to discover how we should (and
should not) move toward this purpose. As a plus, Dayspring artist, Amy Pearce
is going to paint a masterpiece as we worship to illustrate how easy it is!
Yeah, right. She’ll make it look easy, but my stick figures say something
different.
See you then,
Pastor Chris

The Most Important Things
Tuesday Jun 09, 2015

June 6 & 7, 2015IDENTITY: A Journey Through
Ephesians
Eph. 1:15-23
Today is graduation day for many of our teens. Some parents feel like they are
under compulsion to give advice to young people, even the ones who want to
relax and have fun. We just want them to succeed in real life and they need to
know certain important things to thrive.
In the verses we’ll study this weekend, we’ll learn what the Apostle Paul
regarded as the most important things for people to know. The second half of
Ephesians 1 records a prayer. Like everyone else, Paul prayed about what
mattered most to him. We’ll see that his prayer points out the most important
things for us to know as well. We are going to glean some very practical advice
about living real life in the real world. You can prepare by reading the
passage ahead of time and praying for God to reveal what he wants you to see.
Pray also that God will equip you to follow through with whatever challenge he
has for you this week. While you’re praying, ask God for the boldness you need
to invite a friend to come worship with you. I hope to see you.

May 30 & 31, 2015IDENTITY: A Journey Through
Ephesians
Eph. 1:1-14
Do you remember what it felt like the last time you were chosen for something?
Maybe you were selected for an award or a promotion. This weekend we’ll
consider what it means to us that we’ve been chosen by God. We’re beginning a
17-week series in the Book of Ephesians, a letter written by the Apostle Paul
concerning our identity in Christ. It provides a picture of how Christians are
to live in Christian community and in the secular society. In this opening
passage, we’ll dive directly into deep theological waters. This introduction
mentions the confusing and controversial doctrine of predestination. We could
wade right into this quagmire and never climb out again, certainly not in half
an hour. Smart people get lost in this material. So, rather than focusing on
what people have not been able to agree on through the ages and trying to
unscrew the inscrutable; we’ll concentrate on what is clear in this passage and apply what we can
understand about the fact that believers are chosen by God.

I Can Only Imagine

Thursday May 28, 2015
May 23 & 24, 2015Deep Topics
This week will mark the fifth and final sermon in our series on “Deep Topics.” In
this series we have looked together at how the Word of God informs the way we
respond to the many different concerns that keep us up at night. This week will
be no different as we explore together how we can respond to our concern for
the salvation of those we care about.
I can’t speak for each of you, but this remains a concern that has been on my
mind ever since I first surrendered my life to the Lord fifteen years ago. How
can eternity not include some of the people I love most in this world?
To start things off we will look together at what Jesus teaches us in regard to
how we respond to worry in Matthew 6. We will then move to the book of Jonah as
we celebrate together a few examples of what God provides to draw us near to
him. And the concluding thought will lead us to the hope found in Ephesians
3:20 as we look to a God who can do “immeasurably more than we could ever ask
or imagine.”
Come join us for a great weekend together. I pray that you leave with eyes open
and full of hope as we reach out together to impact this community we love so
much.
God Bless,
Nathan

Our Commission: GO! God’s mission of global blessing
Thursday May 21, 2015
Thursday May 21, 2015
"I
will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name
great, and you will be a blessing…all peoples on earth will be blessed through
you." This promise, made to Abraham some 4000 years ago, provides a
glimpse into the heart of God. God’s heart has always been to bless
the entire world through the ‘seed’ of Abraham. This weekend, we’ll look at
God’s commission to GO (Global Outreach). It started with one man’s
obedience to go to a far off country…it continues today with believers who take
Christ’s mission seriously. Your life and mine have been blessed as a
result of those who responded to God’s call to go! God wants Dayspring to
catch a fresh vision for being part of a global blessing.
I
look forward to seeing you this weekend.

A Mothers Day Forum
Be prepared this weekend for something completely different!
You’ll love it! We’ll have six mothers crammed onto a couch on stage sharing
biblical principles they have learned which help them live and love
successfully. They represent six different decades and have meaningful life
lessons to share with us. I know this weekend will involve some surprises and
maybe some tears, as you’ll see authentic vulnerability demonstrated, which
will take you to new places in your spiritual pilgrimage.
My wife Annie will be moderating the discussion and representing one of the
decades as well. What will be shared will have great application not only
for those raising children, but also for each one of us who decide to come
worship together this Mothers Day weekend. I look forward to seeing you.
