In the classic scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the Grail Knight cautions Indy  as he stands before an array of chalices. “Choose wisely, for while the true Grail will bring you life, the false Grail will take it from you.” The choices we make in life, and in our relationships will make the difference between thriving or surviving, between life or death.

The Apostle Peter was a fisherman. And though he fished with nets, rather than contemporary rods and reels, he was an expert at casting. He knew that to accomplish that he wanted (a haul of fish) he had to cast those nets with all of his strength. You couldn’t just let them slip into the water beside the boat. You have to fling ‘em with everything you’ve got! Which, interestingly, is another definition for the word ‘cast’ - “to throw something forcefully in a specified direction.”
We are in week 3 of our 4-week series, What Happy Couples Know. We’re unpacking principles for nurturing healthy marriages specifically, but these principles apply equally to the success of any healthy relationship! I invite you to join us, regardless of your relationship status. This week, we’re gonna learn that sometimes, you just have to throw things!
In his first letter to the early church, former fisherman, now apostle Peter writes to “cast all your cares on Him (God), because He cares for you.” Remember, to cast can mean to throw something forcefully in a specified direction. With all your strength. Fling the nets. Otherwise, you might come up empty. Perhaps expert casting will improve more than our fishing. Maybe it’s a secret to healthier relationships as well.

It's MutualWhat Happy Couples KnowApril 23, 2023
Last week we began a four-week series called, What Happy Couples Know. And yes, it’s a series about marriage. But the principles we’re discovering apply not just to marriage, but to all relationships. 
In his fantastical work, author Hugh Loring’s pushmi-pullyu of Dr. Doolittle fame, is an imaginary creature. This “rarest of all animals in Africa,” is described by Loring as a cross between a gazelle and the last of the unicorns, with two heads, one at each end of its body. It provides a good illustration of how a two-headed beast can not just survive, but thrive – by each head deciding to serve the other, choosing to move and work together as one, for their mutual benefit.
Let’s put our heads together this Sunday and learn what God’s word has to say about how “two heads” serving the other in our marriages, as well as other relationships, can thrive!

This week, we’re beginning a four-week series called, What Happy Couples Know. And, as you might gather from the title, it’s a series about marriage. But it’s not just for people who are married! You might be dating or waiting, engaged, divorced, single or separated. But regardless of your current relationship status, one thing is true... you have relationships. And while we’re going to focus on how to have a healthy marriage, the principles we’re going to unpack apply to healthy relationships across the board.
 
Good marriages, and good relationships in general, don’t just happen. Healthy relationships require effort. And sometimes we don’t feel like making it. Usually that’s because we don’t have the right equipment and we’re unsure of where to start. But we’ve got hope and help to share over the next four weeks.

How do you determine what is true and what is false? Is your experience a reliable method for making such a determination? Are your thoughts, ideas, or feelings a solid foundation on which to make decisions or build a life? In order for something to be ‘true’ it must align with what is real and accurate. It is vitally important that we be able to sort out what is true from what is false.
Join us this Easter Sunday as we celebrate the true reason for our hope... the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the new life that is ours through Him. Jesus is risen! He is risen indeed! Come celebrate that truth with us this Sunday!

Since the beginning of time, humans have offered their crops, their animals, even their children as sacrifices to God. Until... Two thousand years ago—in a shocking reversal—God offered a sacrifice to us. This powerful message traces back through history to explain the magnitude of what God did through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
This Good Friday we reflect on the debt we owed, but could never hope to repay and the One who sacrificed everything to purchase our freedom. Remember and worship with us.

We are wrapping up our study of the letters of Peter this Sunday. As we look at Peter’s final words to the believers to whom he was writing, we find valuable instructions about what it means to wait well.
As followers of Jesus, we say we believe that God is the author of time, that we trust His timing, His purposes, His sovereignty. But if we really trust Him, why are we so impatient when things don’t go according to our timetables? Why are we so unable to wait?
So often we think of waiting as unproductive. But according to Peter, it is anything but! Perhaps we need to re-evaluate our perspective on waiting.

This was vitally important for the young churches Peter was writing to and it’s just as important for us today. Our enemy is as determined to deceive and destroy as ever. He is the ultimate con man. Nothing delights him more than successfully getting us off track. We must be able to distinguish between true and false. They aren’t always what they appear to be!

This week, as we continue in our series, On This Rock: The Unshakeable Hope of 1 & 2 Peter, we begin unpacking Peter’s second letter. Peter is writing what he believes will be his final words to the churches scattered throughout Asia Minor. He’s living in Rome, during the reign of Nero, who was persecuting the followers of The Way. When we were in Rome a few years ago, we visited the Coliseum, one of the places where Christians were tortured and killed for sport. Peter knows that it won’t be long before Roman soldiers come for him as well. And he has an urgent, final message to share.
Peter is writing to people like you and I who are facing difficult circumstances, to give them clear instruction on how to keep from feeling useless or unfruitful. He wants them (and us) to know how to make the most of what God has given us, so that we can avoid looking back on our lives with regret.
What has God given you? How are you growing, using, investing all that He has provided for you? Join us this Sunday as we learn how to leverage all of who we are and what we’ve been given for the cause of Christ.

We are in the middle of our series, On This Rock: The Unshakeable Hope of 1 & 2 Peter. As Peter wraps up the first of his letters, he challenges his readers to lead wisely and follow well. Because it’s hard to be an effective leader, if you haven’t first learned how to be a follower.
No matter what roles God has given you to play in life, you are most likely leading in some ways, and following in others. It’s vitally important that we know how to do both in ways that bring honor and glory to God. Let’s learn to leverage our influence wisely in every role.
